Role the church play in maintaining the feudal system
The government and society in Europe through the middle ages was based around the feudal system. Some communities were formed around the local lord and the manor. The lord owned the land and everything in the land. He would keep the peasants safe in return for their services. The lord, in return would provide the king with soldiers or taxes. Everyone but the king under the feudal system was given land and protection, from a lord ranked higher than them and they repaid the lord with their loyalty. Peasants, the lowest members of society also known as "serfs." In exchange for peasants living and working on the lord's land, the lord offered them his protection. In Medieval Times, the Roman Catholic Church was a big part in most people’s lives. The Church had a lot of power, if not more power and wealth than the kings.
